Local body elections delayed due to constitutional obligation: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party has stressed that the local body elections have been delayed due to the constitutional obligation to provide reservation for OBCs. Speaking to media persons at the BJP State office here on Saturday, the BJP State general secretary Aditya Kothari said that the Supreme Court has issued clear orders that OBC reservation should be implemented in the election process. The demarcation following merger of new areas into local bodies and the process of preparing the voters list is also bound to take time.

Considering the constitutional obligation, the local body elections are bound to be delayed. Kothari said that the opposition should avoid playing politics by spreading confusion on this issue. Referring to the Congress planning to improve its organisational structure on the lines of the BJP, he said that there is a major difference between the original and an imitation. “The BJP is an ideology-based party and its workers with a sense of public service have made it the biggest political party in the world. We do not work with the sole aim of forming a government to bring about changes in the society. It will take decades for the Congress to even understand the BJP so becoming like us is nearly impossible,” said the BJP State general secretary.
