A young woman was found hanging in a resort in Uttarkashi under suspicious circumstances on Friday. The officials said that the police received information in the morning that the body of a young woman was hanging from a ceiling fan in a resort located in Sangamchatti under the Maneri police station area.
The police completed the legal proceedings and brought the body to the district hospital. They said that a panel of three doctors including a female doctor did the post-mortem of the woman late on Friday. The police will be able to tell more about what exactly happened to the deceased after getting the postmortem report, said the officials.
It was suspected initially that the woman committed suicide but her parents and family members alleged that their daughter was murdered. Several locals had gathered around the hospital where respective MLA, district magistrate, sub divisional district magistrate and circle officer of Uttarkashi police were also present till late evening.
The police also called two men who work in the resort for interrogation, informed the officials. They said that the police have seized CCTV and digital video recorder (DVR) of the resort besides collecting other necessary evidence. It was also being said that the victim had several marks on her body. Many are also associating this incident with Ankita Bhandari’s murder case. However, the officials said that the police will be able to comment on the cause of death only after getting the post-mortem report and will take further action accordingly.
The officials have also appealed to people to not spread rumours regarding the case on social media platforms. If the police find anybody spreading baseless rumours about the case that can disrupt peace and harmony, strict legal action will be taken against them, added officials.
