Maharaj distributes Rs 61 lakh loan to 48 farmers

Tourism, Irrigation and Culture minister Satpal Maharaj distributed cheques for loans amounting to Rs 61 lakh to 48 farmers under the Deendayal Upadhyay cooperative farmers’ welfare scheme at Bironkhal in Pauri Garhwal district on Saturday. Before that, while chairing a meeting with departmental officials, the minister pulled up the officials for carelessness in execution of development works.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the minister said that the state government had taken the initiative of distributing interest free loans of upto Rs three lakh each to farmers and upto Rs five lakh to farmers’ groups under the scheme. He said that this scheme will help make the farmers financially stronger and encourage farming. Maharaj said, “Our government is a wellwisher of farmers which has taken many steps in their interest. Apart from these, everybody can benefit from various other schemes being implemented by the government. In the tourism department, youths can receive loan with subsidy for various works under the Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali self employment scheme while old homes can be renovated and converted into homestays under the homestay scheme. The tourism department has started the Deendayal Upadhyay homestay scheme for this purpose. It is due to the efforts of the government that traditional Garhwali dishes are being served also in five star hotels now,” he said.

Earlier, while chairing a meeting with departmental officials, the minister pulled up officials of different departments for carelessness in development works. He warned them and directed them to ensure that there is no carelessness in execution of development works.
