In latest news from Uttarakhand, though rain helped douse the fires relentlessly consuming the forest floors of the State, the mounting mercury has again ignited the blaze. The wildfires have assumed a grim form in the forest stretching from Devikhal and Gumkhal in Pauri district so much so that the villagers living in proximity to the blazing jungles are finding it difficult to breathe. The choking smoke is even reaching the highways and those travelling are facing the same problem. Further, the wildfires are triggering acute drinking water scarcity in villages with the springs drying up fast.
Things are grim in Kumaon region too. After consuming forests in Ramnagar area of Nainital district, the blaze reached the zoo in Haldwani.
