Police arrest duo with 100 kg beef

Haridwar police on Friday arrested two men who were in possession of 100 kilogrammes of beef and cow slaughter equipment. The senior superintendent of police of Haridwar Ajai Singh said that the police received information that a cow is being slaughtered at a house in Nasirpur Kalan village of Bahadrabad block of the district. The police reached the spot to raid the house where they reportedly found three men and beef. They nabbed two men Iliyas and Afzal while the third accused Shavez was able to flee from the spot, said Singh. The police reportedly found 100 kilogrammes of beef in the house along with some equipment for slaughtering cows. Besides this, the police also recovered two knives, one axe and an electronic weighing scale. The SSP said that the police have registered the case against all accused under sections 3, 5 and 11 of the Uttarakhand Protection of Cow Progeny Act and will act accordingly. He said that the police are also looking for the absconded accused who will be nabbed soon. “The police have been taking strict action against cow slaughter in the district. We have witnessed a serious drop in such cases in the past few months. Some smugglers have reportedly become active after coming out of jail. We are also monitoring their activities and will take action in case of any violations,” added the SSP.
