The leopard which unleashed a reign of terror at Shankarpur in Vikasnagar for the past nine months has been finally caged. The forest department set up the cage at Ram Khali in Vikasnagar in which the leopard was imprisoned. The terror-struck people heaved a sigh of relief on hearing the news of the leopard being caged.

The professional hunters who came to kill the maneater leopard if required say that they were puzzled by the big cat’s target killing. They cited an instance of the leopard having killed a four-year-old child whom it had attacked three months ago. Thereafter, the beast picked up the same child from among five children playing in a room. They claimed that Jim Corbett had mentioned such an instance of target killing in his book.

Led by Asish Das Gupta from Solan in Himachal Pradesh, these hunters came from Moradabad and Meerut.

Such an incident of target killing was described in the book of Jim Corbett. It was an incident from Rudraprayag. The beast kept shadowing a woman for some days and then when she was sleeping with her relatives she was picked up by the leopard. The professional hunters say that the leopard appears to be very aggressive in nature.  They have done 75 successful operations involving animals. They have killed six leopards and one tiger since 2006. Besides, they have succeeded in tranquilising    two leopards and one tiger.
