The chief spokesperson of the Uttarakhand Congress Garima Mehra Dasauni accused the State government of cheating the general public under the guise of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). She made this accusation while addressing the media at Congress Bhawan here on Saturday. According to Dasauni, the State government has defined a resident of Uttarakhand as a person living in the State for more than a year in the UCC, which is a big betrayal to the people of the State. She added that the people of Uttarakhand are demanding strong land laws and domicile, and the UCC provision is not meeting their expectations.

She further said that earlier, outsiders were not allowed to buy land more than 200 square metres in the State. However, the then chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat made a significant amendment to the land law, which abolished this rule and left the State’s land open to anyone willing to buy it, she added.

Additionally, Congress leader and Tehri Lok Sabha  constituency coordinator Mantri Prasad Naithani addressed the media on the election manifesto of the party which includes five guarantees. Naithani averred that the Congress party’s priorities of five guarantees to the general public – the Kisan Nyay guarantee, Shramik Nyay guarantee, Nari Nyay guarantee, Hissedari Nyay guarantee and Yuva Nyay guarantee will be fulfilled by the party’s government. He also promised that when the Congress government comes to power, recruitment will be opened for the youth and the government will provide job opportunities to the people. Apart from this Rs one lakh each will be annually provided to poor women living in villages, he added.
