Polling in student union elections nearly peaceful in U’khand

In latest news from Dehradun, polling was held in the student union elections in most of the colleges-both government and private-across Uttarakhand. Sharing details of the polling, the State assistant director, higher education department Deepak Pandey said that polling in the colleges remained peaceful, adding that polling started at 10 am and continued till 2 pm. Thereafter, counting of the polled votes began and the results would be announced by evening to be followed by the swearing in of the victorious candidates the same day. Notably, polling is being held for several posts, including president, vice president, secretary and joint secretary of the student unions. The main contest is between the RSS-affiliated ABVP and the Congress-affiliated NSUI. While the State ABVP president Mamata Singh said that her organisation is contesting for the post of president in all the colleges where student union election is being held the NSUI State president Vikash Negi said that his organisation has put up candidates for the post of president in 86 colleges and for the post of secretary in 33 colleges.
