Taking a stern step, the government has withdrawn Smart City project work from executing agency Bridge And Roof company for work delays and inferior quality in Dehradun. The government took this decision following the decision of the high power committee and chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s recommendation.

On Tuesday, the Urban Development minister Prem Chand Agrawal held a meeting with the Dehradun Smart City Limited (DSCL) CEO Sonika. In a statement issued later, Agrawal said that the work of Bridge And Roof in the outfall and integrated sewerage, and drainage component of the Smart City project was not found to be satisfactory. The company had been issued necessary instructions in meetings repeatedly in the past. On July 29, the minister had also conducted a site inspection and had issued a stern warning on finding that the work was below expectation. The sewerage and drainage work was found to be of inferior quality. Agrawal further said that the work of the same company in the smart road project was found to be unsatisfactory so the company is being removed from this component too. The minister informed that Pejyal and Irrigation departments have been selected for the sewerage and drainage work while the Public Works Department has been made the executing agency for the smart road project. The minister has directed that these works should be started soon so that the people can access the intended benefits.

It will be recalled that earlier, work under the Smart City project had been withdrawn from the executing agency Hindustan Steel Works Construction Limited by the government for pace of progress in work. The company had not been able to start the allocated work even after being made the executing agency.
