HelpAge India will mark the United Nations recognised World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) by organising an awareness programme on June 15 at Kedarnath to raise awareness among individuals on the need to respect and understand the needs of the elders. Many officials will be part of the awareness programme, said the State programme manager of HelpAge India Krishna Avtar.

Avtar said that every year the organisation holds an awareness programme to mark WEAAD. This is the first time it is organising the awareness programme at Kedarnath. On the day of the programme, HelpAge India will release a national report concerning the needs of elders and raise awareness among individuals to respect their parents during old age. He said that the organisation works for the cause and care of disadvantaged older people to improve their quality of life. He further claimed that they organise such awareness programmes in schools, but this time they chose to raise awareness among people on a bigger scale.
