The police investigation so far in the Reliance Jewellery showroom robbery case has revealed that the robbers were allegedly hired from the prisons of West Bengal and Bihar. The leader of the gang allegedly involved in the robbery had hired men new to committing crimes in prisons by paying Rs five to 10 lakhs in advance, said the Dehradun senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ajai Singh. He claimed that the gang has committed such robberies in similar stores in various cities and as per the investigation, new members were hired by the leader every time. As part of their modus operandi, the robbers were given weapons and mobiles by the gang leader. Most of the time, the robbers did not know one another and were not allowed to talk to each other while committing the robbery, said Singh.  He said that several police teams are investigating the various aspects of the case in Dehradun and many teams have been sent to other cities to gather evidence against the robbers. He also informed that the value of the looted jewellery from the showroom was estimated to be about Rs 14 crore after examining the records of the jewellery and verifying the associated documents provided to the police. Talking about the speculations whether the police will be able to nab the robbers, SSP said that the robbery was done after months of planning and it is certainly expected to take some time for the authorities to catch them. However, the police have gathered various pieces of evidence that are taking the police near to the robbers. It might take some time but the police will certainly nab the robbers, stated Singh. He also appealed to people to not politicise the case for personal or political gains and to keep faith in the police.
