Fire Service Week begins in Uttarkashi

In latest news from Uttarakhand, ‘Fire Service Week’ is being observed in Uttarkashi district since April 14 and several programmes are being organised to mark commemorative week aimed to raise awareness on the fire safety measures to be taken to keep fire accidents at bay.  

 On the inaugural day, the Uttarkashi superintendent of police   Arpan Yaduvanshi and the district fire office in-charge, Devendra Singh Negi paid floral tributes to those who had died while being engaged in fire fighting operation. In a commemorative programme held at the fire station in Barkot, the station house officer Barkot Santosh Singh Kunwar and the fire officer in-charge, Surat Singh paid tributes to the fire personnel who died in fire fighting operations. The same happened in the fire station Ladari where the fire station officers and employees paid tributes.    

Thereafter, the fire personnel made the general people aware of how to prevent fire accidents on loudhailers in Ladari, Joshiada, Matali, Dunda, Gyansu, Uttarkashi Main Market and Gangori.  Pamphlets related to fire safety measures were also distributed.

On April 14, 1944, when a cargo ship, loaded with cotton bales, explosive materials and war equipment, suddenly caught fire at Bombay port 66 firemen were killed while trying to douse the flame.  To pay tributes to those slain fire fighters,   Fire Day is observed on April 14 all over India.
