Mayor flags off Swachchhata Rath to spread message of cleanliness

Monday, 03 January 2022 | PNS | Dehradun

With the aim to garner maximum score in the Citizen’s Feedback category of Swachchh Survekshan 2022 (SS22) that has started from January 1, the Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ flagged off Swachchhata Rath to raise awareness among people about cleanliness and hygiene. The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has started making preparations to get into the top 50 cleanest cities in the category of cities with 1-10 lakh population after getting into the top 100 cities in SS21 with 82nd rank. Since scoring marks in this category can be challenging for the MCD this time due to the changes made by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), the mayor nominated social activist Anoop Nautiyal and radio jockey Kavya as the brand ambassadors of SS22.

The mayor said that public awareness is an important tool to maintain cleanliness in the city under every Swachchh Survekshan and such initiatives like flagging of Swachchata Rath and nominating ambassadors will help the corporation to reach maximum people. He said that cleanliness is the first responsibility of human life and fulfilling it just not keeps us away from diseases but also keeps our environment clean. “We will send such Swachchhata Raths to all the wards to raise awareness among people about SS22 in order to increase public participation this year. The corporation is working intensely towards getting the city into the top 50 cleanest cities and I appeal to the locals to contribute to this campaign too,” stated the mayor.
