In view of the upcoming civic body elections in the state, the Opposition Congress is gearing up. As part of the preparations, Arushi Sundriyal, the national spokesperson of the Youth Congress, addressed a street corner meeting in Patel Nagar in Dehradun. She said that the BJP with its vicious social media machinery has been trying consistently to demonise the first Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. She said that the people should remember the grim situation the country was in after India gained freedom. She said that assuming the charge of the nation as the Prime Minister during those grim days amounted to taking up a momentous challenge. The condition of the rural India was terrifyingly bad with the farmers dying in the villages, she said. The countries like England, USA and USSR refused to help India come out of the crisis as was being expected. Pandit Nehru initiated the Five Year Plan to rebuild economy through resuscitation of agriculture. Things started improving since then, she said.

She also recalled how Manmohan Singh had helped the country sail out of the grim economic crisis the country had plunged itself in and brought the country on the ascending graph in terms of economy.

Targeting the BJP, she said that the saffron party-led government was a complete failure in terms of economic development.  It could never touch the advisement of the Manmohan Singh  government.
