Video conferencing to provide relief to complainants in police cases

In important cases where the complainant is not satisfied with the investigation conducted by the district police, the review of such probes will be done by the police headquarter through video conferencing. In the past, for the review of such investigations, the complainant and investigation officer used to be called to the police headquarter. In that system, at times the complainant had to travel considerable distances to reach the police headquarter. However, now the complainant and the investigation officer will not need to come to the police headquarter in such cases.

From the next month, the Director general of police Ashok Kumar or the Inspector general (Law and Order) will review the investigation in such complaints every Friday afternoon through video conferencing. The complainant and the officers concerned will present their positions in such cases.

The DGP informed that this new system will be implemented from January 1, 2021. He said that he himself, the IG (Law and Order) and SP (Law and Order) will decide the complaints to be taken up via video conferencing. This system will save the time of the complainant and investigation officer while also ensuring that the review of the case or investigation is done on time. He added that this will help in ensuring timely justice to the complainant.
