Mumbai based artist conveys a message to conserve the Himalayas.

Her paintings showcase the beauty and serenity of the Himalayan Mountain range.

In the art exhibition showcasing mesmerising paintings of the Himalayas at VR Art Space of Landour, Mussoorie, the Mumbai-based self-taught artist Geeta Kapadia is conveying a message to conserve the Himalayas and its beauty through her artwork. The exhibition that started last week is showcasing 19 paintings of Kapadia that she created over a span of six years. These paintings depict the beauty and serenity of the Himalayan Mountain range and are very close to the heart of Kapadia. While talking to The Pioneer, Kapadia said that she has trekked extensively through the Himalayan ranges and has a keen interest in the arts and artists of these regions.

She said that she has learnt various folk arts during her treks and travel journey to the Himalayan regions of the country and also conducts regular workshops for young students to introduce them to the heritage of the folk art forms of India like Rangoli Paintings, Warli Tribal Paintings,  Mithila Paintings and Himalayan Thangka Paintings among many others.

Talking about her love of painting Himalayan mountain ranges, she said that she aims to give a holistic experience to art lovers who have never been to the Himalayas through her paintings. She said that it enables a viewer to imagine and experience the divine beauty and serenity of the Himalayas. Kapadia also expressed her concern over the climate change affecting the Himalayas. She said that she tries to inspire people to conserve the Himalayas by depicting its beauty and significance in her paintings.

Kapadia’s paintings are currently being exhibited in the Himalayan Rhapsody exhibition at VR Art Space in Mussoorie. The art gallery is open for visitors from 10 am to 6 pm on all the seven days of the week till January 18, 2022.
