Rs 3.37 Cr of public money spent on giving Laptops to U’khand MLAs

The legislators of the fifth assembly of the Uttarakhand have been given a sum of Rs 98.69 lakh for laptops and printers. Similarly a sum of Rs 3.37 Core has so far been spent on laptops of the MLAs since the creation of a new State. This information was provided by the Vidhan Sabha secretariat in response to a Right to Information (RTI) query. Responding to the RTI application of Kashipur resident Nadim Uddin, the Vidhan Sabha secretariat has said that every MLA in the first year of his tenure has been given a Laptop. Similarly printers, web cameras and bags were provided to the legislators in the last few years. The Vidhan Sabha secretariat has informed that all 71 MLAs of the assembly have been provided Laptops five times since the creation of the new State. In the year 2004, a sum of Rs 58,66,588 was spent on purchasing 71 laptops ( at Rs 82,628 per laptop). The MLAs of the first Vidhan Sabha were also provided with printers costing a sum of Rs 9,37,768 to the State exchequer. In the year 2007, a sum of Ts 70,19,231 was spent on purchasing laptops for MLAs while a sum of Rs 49,26,385 was spent on purchase of Laptops for MLAs in the year 2012. The MLAs of fourth Vidhan Sabha (2017) were given Laptops of Rs 54,14,917 and printers of 6,91,185 by the secretariat.
