Opposition gave scams, BJP ensured development: Nadda

The Bharatiya Janata Party national president Jagat Prakash Nadda lambasted the opposition for various scams orchestrated during its term in office at the Centre while listing the various developments facilitated in Uttarakhand and across the nation under the 10-year term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi so far. He was addressing a public gathering in Pithoragarh in support of the BJP’s Almora-Pithoragarh Lok Sabha candidate Ajay Tamta on Thursday.

Nadda said, “On the one hand there is our government which understood the pain of Uttarakhand and left no stone unturned to ensure the State’s development, fulfilled the aspirations of the youth and empowered the women to bring the State into the mainstream. On the other hand are the opposition parties which duped Uttarakhand for decades. They indulged in scams and brought destruction instead of development in the State. The Congress orchestrated the coal scam, Bofors scam, submarine scam, AgustaWestland scam, 2G-3G scam and the commonwealth games scam, among others.”

He said that the people of Uttarakhand elected BJP candidates on all five Lok Sabha seats in the 2014 and 2019 elections. As a result, despite the Covid-19 pandemic and the Ukraine-Russia war, India overtook Britain to become the world’s fifth largest economy. He said that if the people elect BJP candidates from all the five Lok Sabha seats this time too, it will enable India to become the world’s third largest economy in 2028. Listing the development achieved by the nation he said, “India has grown sixfolds in the export of electronic goods. Earlier, most of the mobile phones were made in China but today 97 per cent mobile phones are manufactured in India. Today we are second in the world in steel production while in the manufacturing and marketing of automobiles, we have overtaken Japan. India is today the world’s third largest automobile market. India is today also making the most effective and cheapest medicines.”

Referring to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, he said that four crore homes were made for the poor, out of which about one lakh homes were built in Uttarakhand with 11,000 of these being built in Pithoragarh district. About 11 crore cooking gas connections were provided under the Ujjwala Yojana with one lakh connections being provided in Uttarakhand. Tap water was provided in 12 lakh homes in Uttarakhand, of which 2.40 lakh homes are in Pithoragarh.

Nadda further said, “PM Modi has special affection for Uttarakhand, due to which Rs 41,000 crore central fund was provided for the State’s development. Vande Bharat Express was started on the Dehradun-Delhi and Dehradun-Lucknow routes while the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail line is being built at a cost of Rs 16,000 crore. The development schemes worth thousands of crores of rupees being undertaken in Uttarakhand would not have been possible during the Congress’ term.”

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the target to win more than 400 seats is the key to PM Modi’s guarantee and development. The BJP is pursuing the aim of making India a developed nation and the world’s third largest economic power. He expressed confidence that the people of Uttarakhand will elect BJP candidates on all five seats in the State to enable PM Modi to achieve these aims. BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt, State in-charge Dushyant Kumar Gautam and others were also present on the occasion.

Later in the day, Nadda and Dhami addressed a public gathering in Vikasnagar area of Dehradun district.
