Uttarakhand associated with Aushadhi, Ayush and cure: President Murmu

The President Droupadi Murmu has said that the idea of ‘Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam’ is at the root of our commitment to make the entire world healthy and free from diseases. She was addressing the fourth convocation of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh on Tuesday. She exhorted the teachers, students and nurses of AIIMS Rishikesh to make the commitment the motto of their professional career.

She said that in India’s ancient scriptures, the divine land of Uttarakhand was linked with Ayush, Aushadhi and cure. Murmu said in the AIIMS Rishikesh, the patients are also treated with AYUSH apart from allopathy. She expressed a desire that Uttarakhand should establish itself as an ‘Arogya Land’.

The President said that use of the latest technology should be the priority of an institute such as AIIMS Rishikesh. She said that the AIIMS Rishikesh is trying to move forward in CAR- T cell therapy and Stem Cell Research. She suggested that the institute should collaborate with other institutes for doing research on  these subjects.

Murmu said that the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics in diagnostics will continue to increase in future and expressed confidence that the institute will use them in practice.

She said that the number of people affected by diabetes in India is more than 10 crore which is the highest in the world. Use of Semaglutide in treatment of diabetes is in discussion these days. The President said that people in Uttarakhand get affected with osteoporosis and anemia and research on such local problems should be the priority of AIIMS Rishikesh.

She opined that the AIIMS Rishikesh should focus on public health and community engagement and by doing this the institute should contribute to the mission of healthy and developed India.

The President exhorted the students and said that their patients should remember them for their expert clinical touch as well as their special healing touch.

 The governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh, the executive director of AIIMS Rishikesh Dr Meenu Singh and others were present on the occasion.

 A total of 598 students were awarded degrees in the ceremony.
