The terminated ad hoc employees of the Vidhan Sabha have welcomed the letter written by Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy to chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, requesting him to facilitate their reappointment. However, Swamy’s letter has been criticised as against the interests of the State’s youth by Dehradun resident Abhinav Thapar who has filed a public interest litigation in the Uttarakhand High Court seeking investigation into all appointments in Vidhan Sabha from 2000 to 2022, monitored by a sitting judge of the HC, while also seeking recovery of government money from ministers and officials found guilty of facilitating appointments through corrupt means.Thapar said that the HC had sought the government’s response in eight weeks but the government has not yet responded though 10 weeks have passed.

Swamy wrote to Dhami and shared on social media that he had urged the CM to take action in the matter of “unjustified termination of 228 appointees in Vidhan Sabha”. “Prima facie the terminations were unconstitutional.  I hope a court case is not necessary,” he added. In his letter the BJP leader informed that he had received a letter from the terminated employees. “I hope that you will have an all-party meeting or take any step possible at your level to ensure justice to these employees because it seems to me that injustice has been done to them. Different treatment to employees appointed in the same manner in one State is not proper,” he wrote.

Responding to the letter, Thapar said that it is detrimental to the interests of the State’s youth. He further averred that the future of the State’s youth is uncertain due to the Vidhan Sabha appointment scam and question paper leaks in recruitment exams conducted by the Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission and the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission. “I request Swamy to withdraw his demand till the HC delivers its decision on the PIL filed in the matter,” said Thapar.
