With an aim to be considered for direct employment in government jobs, a total of 80 sports medalists from various parts of the State have submitted their applications under the out of turn employment scheme.

The additional director of the sports department Ajay Agarwal informed that 80 medalists from across the State have already applied to avail the benefits of the scheme. He said that the scheme has been launched to encourage and boost the morale of State residents involved in sports. Under this scheme, players who win medals at national, Olympics, Asian and Commonwealth games will be directly eligible for government jobs, he added.

Agarwal further stated that in 2024, the Sports department will provide government jobs to players who have won medals in the aforementioned games during the last 10 years. To access the benefits of the scheme, players must apply online through the State sports website and submit relevant documents. The deadline for application was previously set for January 15 but has been extended to January 31 due to unavoidable circumstances, he said.

“The eligibility criteria for the scheme require that medal winners should be permanent residents of Uttarakhand and should have represented the state in national games. After applying under the scheme, the applicant’s eligibility will be scrutinised at various stages,” Agarwal said.

He further informed that the entire process of direct employment is expected to be completed within four months. Medalists will be directly employed in five departments, including Sports, Youth Welfare, Police, Transport and Education departments. Agarwal added that the medallists of the upcoming 38th national games would also be eligible for the out-of-turn employment scheme.
