CM seeks glacier & water resources research centre in U’khand

Requests Shah to provide chopper for regular monitoring of vulnerable areas & international border

Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat met the Union Home minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Monday and informed him about the rescue and relief operations in the disaster affected Joshimath area of Chamoli district. Rawat requested the Union minister to facilitate the establishment of a glacier and water resources research centre in Uttarakhand. He also requested that one helicopter be provided for consistent monitoring of inaccessible areas, areas vulnerable to disaster and the international border. Shah said that the State government, central agencies and local administration had worked with better coordination following the disaster. Along with search and rescue operations, the army, ITBP, NDRF and SDRF also provided relief in the affected villages without delay, he added.

Rawat requested that approval be granted for one IRB battalion in Gairsain for disaster management and border management. The CM also sought the deployment of a special team equipped with anti-drone technology in the Kumbh Mela to be held soon in Haridwar. Rawat further pointed out that an annual budget of upto Rs 25 crore is needed under the state police modernisation scheme to make the Uttarakhand police more effective and modern. Relaxation should be provided on Rs 36.46 crore amount due as a result of security forces posted from time to time in the state. In the future, payment in such cases should be made in 90:10 ratio as in the case of north eastern and special category states, he said. Rawat also requested that the inner line permit system be scrapped for better border management in the Niti valley in Chamoli district and Nelang valley in Uttarkashi district. This will also enhance economic activities in the villages of these areas through tourism.

Agreeing in principle to the issues raised by the CM, Shah assured that the central government will provide all possible assistance to Uttarakhand.
