27 caught for gambling in hotel, Rs 12.5 lakh recovered

Haridwar police raided a hotel and arrested 27 persons for gambling. The police also recovered more Rs 12 lakh in cash. Haridwar senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh had received information about gambling thriving in the district. On his directions, superintendent of police (Rural) Swapna Kumar Singh headed a team which checked various hotels and from one of these they arrested 27 people for gambling while recovering Rs 12.5 lakh and four luxury vehicles.

The Haridwar police raided several hotels late on Thursday night causing some panic among the hotel owners. During the raids, the police raided All Seasons hotel on Manglaur Road where they found 27 persons gambling in different rooms. The police arrested all the people and brought them to the police station.Action is also being taken against the hotel owner.

SP (Rural) said that the SSP had received inputs and on his directions, the police raided hotels and arrested 27 persons found gambling in a hotel. A case has been registered against all of them under the Gambling Act and further legal proceedings are underway, he said.
