An umbrella brand should be prepared for the products of Uttarakhand. All growth centres should work according to the targets for sale and profit they set. The district magistrates should themselves visit the growth centres and resolve the problems being faced there. Further, online marketing of their products should also be facilitated while focus should also be laid on the local markets. The chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said this while presiding over a meeting to review growth centres here on Monday.

Addressing the officials, the CM directed that an umbrella brand be made for the state’s products. The services of skilled specialists should be taken for making this umbrella brand under which the other brands will continue running. The speciality of Uttarakhand’s products, potential market and other aspects should be studied thoroughly for this. The name of the brand should have the feeling of Uttarakhand in it. The industry department will implement it, added Rawat.

He further directed that quality designers be provided to the growth centres in Thano and Kotabagh. The centres in Haridwar linked with Prasad making should prepare in view of the Kumbh Mela to be held next year. Skill development should be facilitated for all connected to growth centres, he said.

The CM stressed that not just seasonal but regular sale of products made at growth centres should be ensured. A pick-up can be facilitated for a group of centres in close proximity which will also check the transport cost. Rawat pointed out that there had been a rise in the self confidence of people especially women connected to growth centres. The growth centres are a good example of self-reliant India and the vocal for local idea.

The CM also sought feedback through video conferencing from representatives of various self help groups (SHGs) operating the growth centres. They stated that the income of villagers and women had increased since the start of growth centres. The products made in these centres are also gradually securing space in the market even as more locals are coming forward to connect with the growth centres. An SHG from Lohaghat informed that after receiving machines, the production of iron cooking pots had increased considerably along with the income. Similarly, members of an SHG from Urgam area of Chamoli district said that they are getting good price for the milk and ghee from Badri cow.

Additional chief secretary Manisha Panwar informed that while 104 growth centres had been approved so far, 72 of these had started operations. About 30,000 people are benefiting from these growth centres.
