Work to promote sustainable and responsible tourism in Doon: DM

The Dehradun district magistrate Sonika on Thursday issued instructions to the Tourism department to develop tourist places in the district by strictly implementing various schemes of eco-tourism to promote sustainable and responsible tourism. She asked them to make arrangements to provide basic facilities at tourist places by coordinating with the departments concerned. She stated this in the meeting with the officers of the linear departments which was held to review the implementation of department-run schemes. She directed the officers to submit proposals for the schemes under which the construction works will be carried out. She said that proper plans and strategies should be prepared to get the desired goal considering the difficulties currently being faced by some departments in the implementation of the schemes. She also instructed the municipal bodies to ensure proper garbage collection from routes and via door-to-door garbage collection. She asked the officials to provide updated information on these tasks to the administration on a regular basis.  She also directed municipal bodies to act against unauthorised encroachment on government lands, especially in urban areas. She instructed the departments concerned of district development, the public works department, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, youth welfare, and revenue among others to prepare an action plan to achieve the target under the 30-point programme of the district. She also asked the finance and statistics officer to gather information about the progress of the works under the schemes and provide detailed information to the respective departments.
