In latest news from Uttarakhand, with stalemate continuing on naming the candidate for the Haridwar constituency, the Congress brass authorised the party’s national general secretary K C Venugopal to zero in on it. The party insiders said that the high command was being pestered by a number of claims, leading to an impasse. Placed in this situation, Rahul Gandhi is believed to have entrusted his close confidant Venugopal to finalise the matter. As per sources, while Harish Rawat is batting for his son Virendra Rawat, the State party president Karan Mahara is eyeing this seat. This aside, The Independent MLA from Khanpur in Hardwar Umesh Kumar and a self-proclaimed OBC leader Rajkumar Soni are lobbying, saying they have enough clout in the constituency to give the BJP candidate Trivendra Singh Rawat a run for his money.
