The police arrested an accused of fraud on Tuesday who was purportedly declared dead by the court two years ago. The officials informed that a man had registered a complaint in Pithoragarh Kotwali on April 14, 2008 against a man named Dinesh Chandra Punetha who had allegedly duped him of about Rs three lakh. The police filed the case under section 409 of the Indian Penal Code but the accused soon absconded.

The Pithoragarh police raided all possible places several times to arrest the accused but failed to nab him. The police also announced a reward of Rs 2,000 on his head in March, 2009. They informed that the accused was declared dead on the orders of the court two years ago on March 10, 2022. The authorities also issued his death certificate and handed it over to the police.

The officials said that the police were able to arrest him on Tuesday as part of the State police’s ongoing campaign to arrest the wanted accused. The police arrested Punetha from Pithoragarh’s Chimsyanaula. The police will soon present him before the court and take further action accordingly, the officials added.
