An alert from Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, helped authorities save a 30-year-old man from committing suicide in Udham Singh Nagar.  The deputy superintendent of police of the cyber crime police station of Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) Ankush Mishra said that a man named Sachin (name changed) had posted on Instagram about attempting suicide.

Due to this, the cyber crime police received an alert on Monday from Meta via call and email from the United States of America (USA) as they frequently screen such posts. The STF immediately contacted the local police and made them aware of the distressing post after which, additional superintendent of police Bir Singh and deputy superintendent of police Anusha Badola of Udham Singh Nagar district reached the spot along with a police team.

After the team reached the spot, Sachin told authorities that he was not feeling well mentally due to certain reasons in his life so he posted a suicide post on Instagram. He has apologised for the post and is now safe with his family, said DSP. Mishra said that Sachin was given professional counselling and assured that he will not take any such extreme step in the future.

The senior superintendent of police of STF Ayush Agrawal also expressed gratitude to Meta for keeping a close watch on cyber crime which has saved many lives so far.
