Situation improves slightly, more rain forecast today

The situation resulting from rain, landslides and debris across the state improved slightly on Sunday with 72 of the blocked roads having been cleared. The rivers in are flowing below the danger mark in most districts. Currently, about 181 roads are blocked in various districts of the state. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), in Chamoli district the Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway 58 has remained blocked by debris at two locations while the Karnprayag-Gwaldam national highway bas remained blocked by debris at five sites. Six rural motor roads are blocked in Dehradun district while in Rudraprayag the Rishikesh-Kedarnath national highway 107 is blocked by debris near Bhatwadisain. Eleven motor roads are blocked in Pauri district while two rural motor roads are blocked in Uttarkashi district.

In Tehri district the Rishikesh-Srinagar national highway 58 was partially opened for traffic between Kaudiyala-Vyasi while 45 rural motor roads remain blocked in the district. In Bageshwar, one state and 11 rural motor roads remain blocked while one district road and 22 rural motor roads were blocked in Nainital district. Similarly, in the Almora district the Almora-Ghat national highway is blocked due to landslide at Makadau and Kandanaula while seven rural motor roads are also blocked. In addition to 33 rural motor roads, the Tanakpur-Ghat national highway is blocked near Amodi in Champawat district. In Pithoragarh district the Pithoragarh-Ghat national highway is blocked at three sites while the Ghat-Panar-Gangolihat national highway is also blocked by debris. Four border roads and 31 rural motor roads are blocked in the district.

Meanwhile, the state meteorological centre has forecast thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and intense shower at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts on Monday. Dehradun is likely to have one or two spells of rain/thundershowers with the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be about 31 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees Celsius respectively.
