Samples from production units sent for testing

On the directions of the commission of Food Safety and Drug Administration, Uttarakhand, a team from the FDA conducted raids in units producing food items in Dehradun. The district food safety officer PC Joshi informed that in order to check adulteration in daily consumption food items, on the directions of the Food Safety and Drug Administration, Uttarakhand commissioner Pankaj Pandey a joint team of food safety officers from FDA and FDA vigilance personnel has been formed. Headed by the Garhwal region deputy commissioner Rajendra Singh, this joint team will undertake necessary action in the region. On Wednesday, the joint team raided the Mohabbewala area for sampling and inspection at Shri Ganesh flour mill, Sanjeevani Organic Food Products, Devbhumi Food Products and Himutthan Food Products under the Food Safety and Standards Act. Samples of food items of daily consumption including Maida flour, pulses and masalas including coriander powder and turmeric powder along with honey were collected by the joint team for testing. These samples were sent to the government laboratory for testing. According to Joshi, if any problem is found with the samples in the laboratory test, legal action will be taken against the producers under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006. Along with Joshi, the senior food safety officer Ramesh Singh, Yogendra Pande, Sanjay Tiwari, Manju Rawat and FDA vigilance team members including sub-inspector Jagdish Raturi and constables Sanjay Singh Negi and Yogendra Singh were also among those involved in the sampling and inspections.
