Sahaspur MLA opposes electric crematorium in Selaqui

Thursday, 18 November 2021 | PNS | Dehradun

The Sahaspur MLA Sahadev Pundir has opposed the planned establishment of an electric crematorium for animals by the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) in the Selqaui area. Some locals and members of Pachwadoon Sanyukt Samiti met the municipal commissioner Abhishek Ruhela and expressed their objection to the establishment of a crematorium in the Selqaui situated Kanji House of the corporation. They said that the locals are already troubled by the mismanagement of the solid waste management and recycling plant in Sheeshambada and they do not want another mismanaged body by the corporation. Soon after, MLA Sahadev Pundir also arrived to meet the commissioner and supported the locals. He said that crematorium must be set up in an isolated place rather than near any populated area.

While talking to The Pioneer, Pundir said, “I have met the district magistrate R Rajesh Kumar too and expressed my and the public’s apprehensions about the crematorium. He has signed a letter for the corporation to consider other locations to set up the crematorium for animals. I have given that letter to the MCD commissioner and have requested him to consider other locations.” However, Ruhela said to Pundir and the locals that the corporation has sent a detailed project report (DPR) to the state administration for approval but the location is yet to be decided. “The location for establishing the crematorium is yet to be decided. We are still considering other possible locations across the city.

Since some people have shown some apprehensions towards its establishment in the Selqaui area, the MCD will consider it while deciding the location,” stated Ruhela.
