Russian students immerse in socio-cultural exchange at UPES

UPES recently concluded its inaugural India Immersion Programme at its campuses in Bidholi and Kandoli. The programme aims to offer students a unique and enriching experience by exposing them to diverse cultures, business practices and societal contexts. This immersive approach fosters a global mindset, cultural adaptability, and a deeper understanding of global issues and better equips students to become global leaders.

The university welcomed 13 students and four faculty members from the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE University) in Russia. During the 15-day programme, these Russian students attended various sessions, visited nearby schools, villages and NGOs. Tailored to offer HSE students an overview of India’s economic, political, and social landscape, these winter school sessions provided insights into the country’s regulatory framework, policies, and consumer behaviour.

Speaking at a workshop environmentalist and Padma Bhushan recipient Anil Prakash Joshi spoke about India’s varied civil society, including NGOs, community organisations and advocacy groups, and their role in tackling social, environmental and humanitarian challenges.Students also had the opportunity to learn about India’s economic reforms in a session by UPES School of Liberal Studies dean Dr Shubhashis Gangopadhyay. UPES also organised sporting activities and Yoga retreats in Rishikesh and Mussoorie for the students.
