The Nainital district magistrate Vandana Singh has directed the officials to register FIR against those who abandon their cattle on roads under the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act besides the rules against public nuisance and road safety. She directed the municipal bodies to conduct a special campaign against those who abandon their cattle on roads in association with block development officers, sub divisional magistrates and police. She asked them to identify guilty cattle owners to take strict action against them. She said that abandoning cattle on roads after they do not give any financial profit to people is inhumane. This also causes injuries and death of cattle on roads under bad circumstances that also put human life at risk as well. Considering this, strict action should be taken against such offenders. An FIR should be registered against them under several acts to ensure they get severe punishment as per the rules. Besides this, she also directed the officials to ensure organisations running cow sheds with the help of the administration have enough space to keep the cattle properly and treat them well. The administration has allocated funds for the construction of new cow sheds and the work should be commenced soon. The officials concerned should regularly monitor cow sheds across the district and take strict action if they find any irregularities. The administration will not tolerate any kind of negligence and cruelty towards cattle in the district, DM added.
