The Royal Society of Chemistry (Cambridge, United Kingdom) and Doon University, Dehradun organised a three-day residential Yusuf Hamied Chemistry Camp for IX class students.  Sharing details of the camp, the vice chancellor of Doon University Surekha Dangwal said that 71 students from 43 schools from villages Chamba, Naicholi, Moldhar and Nagni- all under Tehri district- had attended it. “The objective of this camp- organised as part of the RSC Yusuf Hamied Inspirational Science Programme- was to provide the school students an opportunity to explore practical chemistry and inspire them to build their career in chemistry,” she said.

Notably, established in the United Kingdom around 175 years ago, the Royal Society of Chemistry is the world’s leading chemistry community working for the advancement of excellence in the chemical sciences with nearly 50,000 members from across the world. RSC claims that it has been working since its inception to shape the future of the chemical sciences for the benefit of science and humanity.

Dangwal further mentioned that RSC had started hosting such camps in 2014 with the support of the non-executive chairman of Cipla Limited Yusuf Hamied. “This is its first camp in Uttarakhand and 56th in India,” she added.

While addressing the valedictory session, the director general of Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST) Durgesh Pant said that such camps would positively impact the students by arousing curiosity in them and making them more receptive to new knowledge.
