Negi directs DM to probe anomalies in Buddhist school

Observing several anomalies in a Buddhist school in Purkul area of Dehradun during a recent inspection, the chairperson of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR), Usha Negi has written to Dehradun district magistrate (DM) Ashish Kumar Srivastava seeking a probe in the matter.

According to Negi, the school management informed the commission that the Nepalese children living in the school could not be sent back to Nepal due to lack of resources at that time and therefore they reportedly wrote an application to DM’s office to get some assistance. However, if the district administration received any application as per the claims of the school management, which officials were appointed by the administration to ensure the safety of over 213 students during the lockdown period while observing whether the Covid-19 protocols were being followed by management, enquired Negi.

Moreover, Negi also mentioned in the letter that the school has allegedly changed the name of many Nepalese students and had even made their Aadhaar card with Dehradun address. She also stated that days after the alleged incident when some teachers beat some Nepalese students on October 26, the school management had not provided even first-aid treatment to the students. She also raised questions over the school management stating that the school is responsible for students but the operators did not even file a complaint after eight students ran away from the campus. The school has also not registered these students in the Nepal embassy as per Negi.

According to her, the school is affiliated till class VIII by the chief education officer’s office but still, nobody from the department bothered to look into this school. Instructing Srivastava to form an investigation team to investigate all the said issues among others, Negi has asked the DM to submit the report in the commission within 15 days.
