State Sports University Act notified by governor

Sports minister Rekha Arya informed that the governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh officially notified the State Sports University Act on Wednesday. Arya stated that the State government is preparing to lay the foundation stone for the first sports university in the State on the upcoming National Sports Day. She said that departmental officials have been instructed to ensure all necessary preparations are completed before this significant day.
According to Arya, this development is a major opportunity for athletes in the State, as the establishment of the sports university will provide an important platform for athlete training and education. The university is set to be built in Gaulapar, Haldwani and efforts will be made to begin operations as soon as possible. The Sports minister also said that officials have been tasked with meeting all the required standards for the university.
Additionally, Arya conducted the Bhoomi Pujan (groundbreaking ceremony) for a working women’s hostel in Bhagwanpur on Wednesday. She said that the hostel will be constructed at a cost of Rs 279.05 lakh and will cover an area of approximately 750 square metres. Arya highlighted that the establishment of this hostel will help alleviate housing-related issues for working women in Bhagwanpur and the surrounding areas.
Further, Arya distributed Mahalakshmi kits and Kishori kits to eligible women and adolescent girls during the event.
