The Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) minister Rekha Arya conducted a meeting with the representatives of various Anganwadi workers associations of the state to discuss their issues on Friday.

In the meeting, Anganwadi workers said that they want a raise in the monthly allowances for the Anganwadi worker of every level. Arya said to this that the department will present a proposal for the same in the next cabinet meeting. The associations also demanded the department to hire assistants for those Anganwadi workers who work in more populated areas. On this, the WECD minister directed the officials to conduct a survey to figure out the proportion at which the Anganwadi workers are appointed in more populated areas. She ordered a list of such places in order to readjust the duties of the workers on its basis. The Anganwadi workers also demanded summer and winter vacations on which Arya has directed the officials to study such practice in other states too.

The Anganwadi representatives said that besides their regular duties, other departments also put them on duty for various works and sometimes, a single worker receives multiple orders to be on many duties from various departments. Arya directed the WECD secretary HC Semwal to issue orders to all district magistrates to allot duties to Anganwadi workers through the district programme officers (DPOs) so that duties can be allotted properly. Arya praised the Anganwadi workers for their contribution and said that the department will also propose in the cabinet to make the workers beneficiaries of certain welfare schemes too.
