Portals of Kedarnath temple to open on April 25

The portals of Kedarnath shrine will be reopened to the public on April 25 at 6:25 AM. 

The date was arrived ceremoniously on the occasion of Mahashivaratri at the Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath, the winter abode of lord Kedarnath when the main shrine is closed to the public.  The portals of the Badrinath temple would open at 7:10 AM on April 27 this year.

The Panchmukhi Utsav Doli of Lord Lord Kedarnath will depart from Omkareshwar temple for Kedarnath on April 21 and the procession will reach Guptkashi in the afternoon. It will reach Phata on April 22 and reach Gaurikund on April 24.  The date of opening of the portals of Kedarnath shrine was announced after the Vedic prayers and rituals in the presence of Kedar Ling the representative of the Rawal (chief priest) of Kedarnath, Bhimashankar Ling at a function held on the occasion of Mahashivaratri at the Omkareshwar temple on Saturday. 

It is pertinent to mention here that more than 46 lakh pilgrims visited the Char Dhams last year which is a record. In Kedarnath more than 15 lakh pilgrims had offered prayers last year.

With the schedule for the resumption of the Char Dham Yatra being finalised in the state, the authorities have also started preparations for necessary works to facilitate the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage. The State administration is claiming to introduce a glitch free system of registration of Yatra this year.
