Police act against illegal cow slaughter in Haridwar

The police have arrested 10 accused in the past three days for illegal cow slaughter in Haridwar district. In the latest incident, the police arrested three men in the Garh village of Ranipur area. The police recovered considerable quantity of beef and equipment used to slaughter the bovines along with about Rs 10,000 cash from the location. The police have initiated legal action against a total of five persons including the three accused arrested.

Earlier, acting on a tip off the police raided an orchard in the village at about 4 AM on Tuesday.

Some men were slaughtering cows at the scene and attempted to run away on seeing the police. The police caught three men while two managed to escape. The trio has been identified as Riyasat, Sajid and Kallu, all residents of Garh village. The police also recovered about 143 kilogrammes of beef, three live cattle, the remains of three slaughtered bovines and Rs 10,900 cash from the site.
