PM Modi reviews Olympic prep; to interact with athletes on July 13

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reviewed preparations for facilitation of India’s contingent at Tokyo-2020 and will meet with Olympic athletes on July 13 to ‘wish them luck’.

The Olympics in Tokyo are to start on July 23 amid Covid-19 conditions with no spectators allowed inside or outside the Olympic arena.

In a series of tweets, the Prime Minister said, “Reviewed preparations for facilitation of India’s contingent at @Tokyo2020. Discussed the logistical details, their vaccination status, the multi-disciplinary support being given.

“On behalf of 130 crore Indians, I would be interacting with the Olympics bound athletes on 13th July to wish them luck. Let us all #Cheer4India’, Modi said.

Earlier, Prime Minister had asked countrymen to support Indian Sportspersons going to Tokyo to win medals.

In his monthly radio talk, he had spoken highly about Indian Olympic contingent which he said comprised  of many sportspersons with very poor economic background who had come-up by their  sheer dedication and hard work.

At a time when Olympics are to begin, Prime Minister had this week appointed Anurag Thakur as new sports minister taking over from Kiren Rijiju.
