Citizens’ suggestions sought on UCC implementation in U’khand

People have responded positively to planned implementation of UCC- Dhami

Head of the expert committee for preparation of draft of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) to be implemented in Uttarakhand, Justice (retd) Ranjana Prakash Desai said that a website https://ucc.uk.gov.in has been launched for citizens to given their suggestions on the subject. Public representatives, citizens, prominent citizens, organisations and others can submit their suggestions on UCC implementation in Uttarakhand on this website by October 7. The expert committee will consider all suggestions seriously. She said this during an interaction of the expert committee with chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami here on Thursday.

Dhami said that he had promised the people of Uttarakhand that UCC will be implemented in the State. Approval was granted for formation of the expert committee for preparation of the UCC draft in the first cabinet meeting. Appreciating the work done by the committee so far, he said that it had worked at a brisk pace. He said that the draft of the UCC for Uttarakhand will become an example for other States. He said that the people of Uttarakhand have responded positively to the concept of UCC. Appealing to the citizens to submit their suggestions regarding the UCC, the CM said that the State government is committed to fulfill all its promises. He averred that suggestions of the public had not been sought on such a large scale for drafting any law in the nation so far. All citizens and stakeholders of the State are being sent appeals on SMS and WhatsApp along with the link of the portal on which they can send their suggestions within one month.

It will be recalled that on the directions of CM Dhami, an expert committee was formed to prepare a draft for a law or amendment in the existing law for uniformity in law regarding matters related to marriage, divorce, property rights, inheritance, adoption, maintenance and guardianship. After rounds of meetings held by the committee, a website has been launched to seek suggestions from the public regarding the planned UCC.

The committee members Justice (retd) Pramod Kohli, Manu Gaur, Shatrughna Singh, Surekha Dangwal and member secretary Ajay Mishra along with chief secretary SS Sandhi, additional chief secretary Radha Raturi and other officials were also present during the interaction.
