Union MoS inspects construction of roads leading to India-China border

Union minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Ajay Tamta said that elaborate efforts are being undertaken to ensure that traffic on the roads to Adi Kailash and Om Parvat continues without disruption. During his two-day visit to this area in Pithoragarh district, the minister first inspected the Tapovan-Gunji and Gunji-Jyolikong roads being constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in this region which borders China.

Stating that these roads are strategically important and will strengthen connectivity in border areas, he sought detailed information about the construction works from the BRO officials. He also directed the project manager of the executing agency to speed up construction of the Tawaghat-Kalapani motor road while ensuring that the quality standards are maintained.Interacting with the locals and travellers while learning about their issues, he assured the pilgrims that their verification will be conducted only on necessary checkpoints on the pilgrimage route, barring which they will not be stopped. Stating that the government is committed to resolving the issues of the public, he said that all possible efforts are being undertaken for development of border areas. He said that these roads are near the India-China border and are important for the security forces.

Construction of these roads will make the movement of the security forces easier in these areas which will further strengthen the nation’s security. The construction of these roads will not only enhance the movement of the security forces but also boost employment for locals by encouraging tourism, which in turn will improve the region’s economic development. Appreciating the BRO personnel working in difficult circumstances, he said that the result of their hard work dedicated to the nation is commendable.

Tamta later offered prayers at the Shiva temple near Adi Kailash and Parvati Kund. He said that following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Adi Kailash, the number of devotees and tourists arriving in this area has increased considerably. On the second day of his tour on Sunday, the Union MoS inspected the Gunji-Kali Nadi-Nabhidhang motor road till Lipulekh. Checking the progress of the work and quality of construction, he issued necessary instructions to the officials before paying obeisance to Om Parvat. BRO officials and local public representatives were present on the occasion.
