Dehradun police verify over 150 tenants, penalise 50 landlords for violations

Dehradun police verified more than 150 tenants and outsiders living in the Selaqui area during a verification drive on Sunday. Police teams focused on individuals staying in rented accommodations or appearing suspicious.
The police fined 50 landlords under the Police Act for failing to verify their tenants, imposing a total penalty of Rs five lakh. The officials informed that as part of the campaign, 10 individuals were brought to the police station for questioning based on suspicion. After verification, all were found to be clear and were released. Besides this, police imposed penalties on 10 people and collected a fine of Rs 2,500 under Section 81 of the Police Act for violating public regulations.
The officials said that the police will continue to conduct the inspections regularly to monitor and verify the identities of outsiders and tenants living in Dehradun.
