Pauri Police arrests painter for Srinagar theft

Solving a theft case in a short span of time, the Pauri police arrested an accused on Tuesday  and recovered stolen jewellery worth Rs 4,50,000 from him. The arrested Mohammed Arif, a resident of Chutmalpur of Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh (UP) used to work as a painter in Srinagar.

According to the information Lieutenant  Colonel (retd) Gunjan Pathak, warden of Alaknanda Girls hostel, Garhwal University, Srinagar lodged a first information report (FIR) in Police station Kotwali, Srinagar on Sunday. The report stated that  Col Pathak and his family had gone to Dehradun on January 1, 2023 and on return the lock of his room in Srinagar was found broken and ornaments of gold and silver worth of Rs 450000 were missing. 

On the instructions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shweta Choubey a team was constituted in the theft committed in the campus of Garhwal University. 

 Under the supervision of the Circle officer Shyam Dutt Nautiyal, the police team under In-charge Inspector Hari Om Raj Chauhan arrested accused Mohammed Aarif near National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar and recovered the stolen ornaments from him. The arrested accused Arif told the police on investigation that prior to this he had committed one more theft. He said that he works as a painter in the houses and during this he conducts reckee of the houses to break in.
