In a massive show of strength the Uttarakhand Congress celebrated the induction of Yashpal Arya on Monday. A programme to welcome Arya was held in the Congress headquarters here on the day.
In the programme, former district president Mahendra Singh Lunthi and many others joined the Congress party in presence of the senior leaders of the party. Speaking on the occasion, the head of the election campaign committee of the party and former chief minister Harish Rawat said that the enthusiasm and presence of a large number of party workers today shows the difference Arya’s entry has made for the Congress party. He admitted that Arya’s defection to BJP ahead of the assembly election of 2017 was one of the reasons for the defeat of Congress as the party got 2 -3 per cent less votes.
Addressing the gathering Arya said that he has returned back to his home. He added that only Congress party knows how to rule and this fact is admitted by the BJP leaders also. The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in state assembly Pritam Singh, the AICC secretary Qazi Nizamuddin, MLA Adesh Chauhan and other leaders of the party were present on the occasion.
