New Covid-19 strain arrives in U’khand

A 44 year old male found infected with the new strain

The dreaded new strain of the Covid-19 which is wreaking havoc in many European countries has made its appearance in Uttarakhand. On Thursday, the sample of a 44 year old male, a resident of MDDA colony Kedarpuram was found infected with the new strain of the virus. He had come into contact with an infected traveller from Ireland. The condition of this patient is said to be stable and he is kept in isolation and observation at the Covid care centre located at Teelu Rauteli hostel, Dehradun.

The Director General (DG) state health services, Dr Amita Upreti confirmed that a new strain of virus has been found in a patient in Dehradun. The patient was found positive for Covid-19 on December 27, 2020. His sample was sent for genome sequencing for confirmation of the new strain of Covid-19 to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), New Delhi on December 30, 2020. His report was received by the department on Thursday. The new strain of the SARS Covid virus is said to be a mutant and more fatal than the Covid-19 virus.
