The Rishikesh municipal commissioner Shailendra Singh Negi said that garbage dumping in public places is leading to the accumulation of heaps of garbage in various parts of the city. The municipal officials identified 20 locations in Rishikesh where people tend to dump garbage daily more often than in other places. These cameras were installed near ISBT, railway station, AIIMS, the cemetery, Kewalanand Chowk and Meeranagar, among other areas.

The officials concerned have also been directed to improve door to door garbage collection facilities in every ward to ensure people refrain from dumping garbage in the open. The commissioner said that the CCTVs will help the corporation in identifying people dumping garbage in the open. The MCR will take action against offenders as per the rules to ensure they do not repeat the same offense again. Besides this, it will also help the MCR tackle the increasing number of stray cattle in the city. He said that the cameras will help them in identifying those who abandon their cattle in the city.

The authorities concerned will take strict action against them accordingly. Negi informed that an integrated centre has been set up in the MCR premises to monitor these CCTVs regularly which will help the sanitation teams to act against the violations in respective areas. He said that the corporation is working on several initiatives to improve sanitation facilities in Rishikesh and appealed to residents to cooperate in keeping the city clean.
