REPL to prepare master plan for urban centres of Chamoli district

Minister Agarwal directs the company to prepare & execute the plan of the Joshimath city at a faster pace

The Uttarakhand government has given the task of preparing a mega project for the cities and towns of the disaster prone Chamoli district to the REPL Company. The urban development and housing minister Prem Chand Agarwal said that the company would prepare masterplans for the Chamoli, Gopeshwar, Karnprayag, Joshimath, Nandprayag, Peepalkoti, Pokhari and Tharali. The minister took a review meeting of the housing department at his office in Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday. In the meeting Agarwal directed the officers that the plan for Joshimath city should be prepared at a fast pace in view of the crisis of subsidence being faced by its residents. He said that internationally known experts should be included in the plan.

He said that the officers should visit Joshimath to execute the plan. Agarwal said that a master plan of 63 places in the state would be prepared out of which 43 are in mountainous areas while 20 are in plains. The master plan of each district would be prepared by a separate company and selection of REPL has been done for Chamoli. 

The additional chief secretary (ACS) Anand Bardhan, Additional commissioner housing PC Dumka, chief town planner SM Srivastava and others were present on the occasion.
