MCD gears up to make arrangements in Rain Baseras for winter

The Dehradun municipal commissioner Manuj Goyal has directed the officials to make suitable arrangements in the city’s Rain Baseras for the destitute and homeless ahead of the onset of winter. He held a meeting with chief municipal health officer Dr Avinash Khanna and the executive engineer of the corporation to start the necessary work required to make the temporary stay of the destitute in Rain Baseras comfortable in winter. He directed the officials to finish the work soon while ensuring that MCD has sufficient required material to light bonfires across the city to protect people in need against the cold in the coming weeks. The commissioner said that there are five Rain Baseras in Dehradun that provided shelter to over 4,000 destitute and homeless people last year. These shelters are situated in Patelnagar, Balbir Road, Chukkhuwala, Transportnagar and Chuna Bhatta area which have the capacity to provide shelter to 139, 116, 100, 50 and 35 people respectively. Goyal said that he has directed the officials concerned to deploy employees to look after the arrangement of Rain Baseras throughout the winter. He also asked them to make proper arrangements for bedsheets, blankets, pillows and other things to protect the destitute from cold in winter. Besides this, the officials have also been directed to improve electricity and drinking water facilities while ensuring bathrooms and toilets are clean for people’s use in these shelters. Goyal said that MCD is taking all measures to ensure people in need get all the required facilities in these shelters during winter. “Initiatives are being taken to ensure destitute complete protection against cold in winter. The officials will also conduct regular inspections of these shelters to ensure no inconvenience to people in need,” added the commissioner.
