Pauri district magistrate Vijay Kumar Jogdande has directed the police to identify and act against persons seeking donations in the name of purportedly assisting the family of murder victim Ankita Bhandari. Bhandari was working at a resort in Ganga Bhogpur area of Yamkeshwar in the district when she was murdered last month. The main accused, resort owner Pulkit Arya along with employees Ankit Gupta and Saurabh Bhaskar are currently in jail.

According to the district administration, it had come to notice that some people are seeking money on social media and through other means in the name of the family members of the murder victim and for purportedly assisting her family. Taking cognisance of this matter, Jogdande has directed the police to identify such persons and take action against them. When asked about this, the Bhandari family members said that they were unaware about this and the victim’s parents stated that they have not given their bank account number to any person. They have appealed that no person should give any money in the name of their daughter or to assist the family.                                                  .

It is pertinent to mention that in the past chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had met the bereaved family at their residence and presented Rs 25 lakh assistance, which they had initially refused. Various political leaders have also met the bereaved family. The murder of Ankita Bhandari had elicited widespread outrage. It is being suspected that taking advantage of public sentiments, some unscrupulous elements are attempting to exploit the situation for their personal gains.
